Plans are available to meet the requirements of the new curriculum. This is made up of 18 10 day Blocks, with a focus on practical, investigative mathematical activities that lead to real learning and which fulfil the Ofsted expectations for outstanding teaching that "Teachers nurture mathematical independence, allowing time for thinking and encouraging discussion. Problem- solving, discussion and investigation are integral to pupils’ learning of mathematics."
On this website you will find lots of resources, including the innovative maths planning for numeracy lessons. The plans are available for Years 1 to 6, for both single year group and mixed age classes, and are easy to use. They're in use in schools all around the country, and further afield, and have transformed maths lessons for many teachers. If you're looking for investigative, independent work for children that leads to deep understanding (and no worksheets!), this is just what you need. Each Block covers 10 days work and includes more ideas than you will need. You cut and paste what you want to use into the planning sheet, or your own planning document. Activities are practical and develop deep mathematical thinking and problem solving. Most are open ended to enable effective differentiation and challenge. Each Block also contains extra resources to support your planning and includes assessment materials (Learning Objectives document). Medium and long term assessment is also supported.
A recent comment by a teacher using the plans stated 'we're really enjoying using your maths plans, seems much more fun for the children and stretches them more than we expect...every day!'
